Solar PV plant monitoring
Photovoltaic conversion efficiency depends on more than solar radiation alone: wind cooling, panel temperature, humidity and dust accumulation all affect output. The ZPVS solar PV plant weather station combines a compact weather sensor, pyranometer and electronic compass in one unit, adding a panel-dust detection feature not found on Zata's general-purpose weather stations, per the manufacturer's own comparison data for this model specifically.
Wind resource assessment
Before a wind farm is built, wind resource assessment requires accurate wind profile data at multiple heights. The VWL 3D scanning Doppler lidar profiles wind from 60-6000m using eye-safe 1550nm laser pulses, used for both pre-construction site assessment and post-construction wind turbine wake detection. The VWL550 vertical profiling lidar covers a lower 30-400m range as a lighter, tower-replacement-class instrument for wind turbine power curve testing and power forecasting.
Overhead transmission line monitoring
Power grid operators use the ZTLS overhead transmission line weather station to monitor micro-meteorological conditions along transmission corridors, feeding grid disaster prevention and emergency response systems. It's built from the same ZWS600/ZWS400/ZWS200 sensor modules used elsewhere in the range, in a maintenance-free, no-moving-parts design with a sleep-mode power draw under 10mA for remote, hard-to-access line sections.
Radiation instruments for energy applications
Beyond the integrated stations, standalone radiation instruments (pyranometer, pyrheliometer, net radiometer) support detailed solar resource studies, revenue evaluation and satellite data validation for larger energy projects.
